Original Art is that art created by an artist of which
there is no other exact presentation or representation of the art work. This work of art is conceived and produced soley
by the artist, or under his supervision. Graphic works such as lithographs, silkscreens, etchings. etc. are considered to
be "original multiples" as the finished wrok is the only manifestation of such work. A unique piece of artwork that cannot
be exactly duplicated, e.g., an oil painting on canvas. While the image may be duplicated as a print, the reproduction is
not oil paint on canvas.
To frame your original watercolor or other paper art, consider the image area to be
seen. Sometimes an artist will have pencil lines around the outer edges as a guide to paint within. Usually these lines will
be matted over and so not be seen when the piece is framed. Measuring the image area is normally done to the nearest 1/8".
Matting serves the duel purpose of both protecting and enhancing the art work. Matting protects the paper art from exposure
to the environment, keeps it from sticking to the glass and helps to draw color and detail from the art.
